Umpires are needed for the 2022 softball season, as a number of seasoned umpires have left Alaska. No previous umpire experience is required; we have a strong mentoring program to help you get started.
The Juneau-Douglas Officials Association (JDOA) begins an 8-week training program on Tuesday evenings (6-7:30 PM) beginning on March 8 for all returning and new umpires. Each 1.5-hour Cisco WebEx session will cover the resources available, USA and local rules, game management, umpire mechanics, handling difficult situations, and most importantly helping you pass the USA Softball certification exam. You will work initially with an experienced softball umpire to help get adjusted to the game. The 8-week training syllabus is available to view here.
Umpires are needed 2-3 games per night, 1-5 nights a week Monday through Friday, with 2 weekend tournaments during the 2022 season. This is a great opportunity to earn some extra money over the summer – plus, JSA players who decide to be umpires have their player fees waived!
Please reach out to JSA if you are interested by email: info@juneausoftball.com or by phone: (907) 957-7376. Or you can RSVP for the training session through the Facebook Event by clicking here.
